2022 Sweetheart Drive
By Debbie Ward
It was a clear sunny day on Sunday, February 13th when 22 of us Seattle Section MBCA members and our 11 cars drove the Green Valley Road as it meandered along the Green River in Auburn. The valley farmlands are beautiful, and we were fortunate to be welcomed at the historic Canter-Berry Farms for our first stop. Owners, Doug and Clarissa Cross, treated us to blueberry muffins, coffee and blueberry tea as well as an informative talk about the pruning and care of blueberry bushes. Many of us purchased goodies from their farm store before continuing our drive. Mt. Rainier was out in her glory as we continued our drive through the Upper Green River Valley. We passed through Krain and the old mining town of Cumberland. We drove along the Green River Gorge Road thru Franklin where we crossed over a one-way bridge spanning the raging Green River far below. We stopped in the historic town of Black Diamond where we spent some time browsing the shops. Our final stop was for lunch at Lumber House Brewery. Everyone seemed to enjoy the sunshine, the drive and the day with club friends.
